About redesigningcities.org

Our Mission

It is becoming obvious  that there are many communities being forced to either migrate and build new housing from scratch or re-construct existing housing in the face of changes in climate. It also becoming obvious that entire urban areas will have to be redesigned and in many cases relocated. We have considered many different ideas around how to design  housing for people. Basically our designs are for producing homes not warehouses. There are scholars who point out the humanity did not evolve to live in cities and there are many architects who claim that or cites need to be more gardens than concrete that people need trees to relate to in order to find a center.  All of this is probably true to one degree on another but the fact is that most of humanity lives in urban areas and for many reasons it seems like that percentage is growing. The need or idea for garden cities is fine but our focus is building homes. Building structures that people want to live in to raise families that will be comfortable for a life time. We want a design that people will find ways to craft a home. We want a design where if the inhabitants want to have trees outside the door the design will allow that. Our basic concept is around a dislike of apartments. We want people to have the ability and access to their own space. A space when they walk out of the front door it is not into a hallway that at best leads past many other doors and to a stairway or elevator. We do not want people to find it necessary for contact to the outside world is only through a stairway or elevator. We do not want a home to share a common wall with another home. We want people to have the option to have their own space. A space where they can walk out of the any door and stroll around the home. Where they can plant a tree or a rose bush or a tomato plant within their own space. We also find it necessary to have the homes for different size families based in the same area. We fill that having one bedroom units within a same area as two and three and four or more bedroom units will help prevent ethnic and economic divisionswithin a community. Our designs are also concerned about the availability of retail and commercial space as well as  space for meetings etc being within optimal reach. This includes schools, parks, hospitals and administrative buildings.

Just what constitute a home is a concept that  assumes many different perspectives within the varitey of human culutures. The concept of a home also changes in demographics and economics so the design for cities needs to be flexible. It needs as much as possible to respond to the different culture expectations and the future desires and needs of the populace.

Take a look at the design sections under OURS and you will see pdf copies of the autocad floor plans and tables. We are continually coming up with new concsepts so come back offten to see the additions and please give us your comments on our designs and if you have any you want to share we will be happy to post them here on the page.
